Talks are intensifying between Manchester United and Matthijs de Ligt! The Dutch defensive powerhouse has reportedly agreed to join the Red Devils.

Manchester United are actively engaged in discussions with Bayern Munich regarding Matthijs de Ligt’s potential transfer, confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano. Despite having a personal agreement with the player, negotiations between the clubs are ongoing.

De Ligt, eager to switch to Old Trafford following a decline in his Bayern prospects, has already settled on terms for a five-year contract. He is anticipated to form a lasting defensive partnership with Lisandro Martínez at United.

However, Romano disclosed that differences over the transfer fee or payment structure could delay the deal’s completion. Bayern reportedly seeks €50 million, whereas United prefers a slightly lower sum for the 24-year-old.

Since his breakout at Ajax in 2017, De Ligt’s career trajectory has not matched initial expectations, despite high-profile moves to Bayern and Juventus. He started only 16 Bundesliga matches last season, falling down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.

United’s allure promises De Ligt a more fulfilling role, potentially making negotiations straightforward from the player’s side. Yet, Bayern, who praised De Ligt as “world-class” last season, remains firm in their demands.

According to Romano’s latest update, United is still actively pursuing the deal, separate from other transfers. Negotiations with Bayern are ongoing despite the agreement with the player already in place.

Given De Ligt’s preference and ongoing discussions, it appears all parties are motivated to finalize the deal, potentially leading to a compromise as United seeks to strengthen their defensive lineup alongside Martínez, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans.
