Sheffield United ‘interested’ in Nottingham Forest man previously targeted by Leeds United
Lewis O’Brien, a midfielder for Nottingham Forest, is apparently of interest to Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.
The 25-year-old, who attended the academy at Huddersfield Town, was deemed surplus to needs at Forest, and he recently finished a season on loan at Middlesbrough.
Despite missing a large chunk of the campaign due to a protracted layoff, O’Brien made 23 appearances in the Championship under Michael Carrick. On his Patreon page, reporter Alan Nixon states that Middlesbrough would like to have him return to the Riverside
If Alan Brown leaves Deepdale, Preston North End is reportedly eager to sign a loan agreement, while Sheffield United is also mentioned as a potential suitor. According to the report, relegating Forest to the Championship would facilitate a transaction.
O’Brien joined Forest’s roster in 2022 after moving permanently to the City Ground and leaving Huddersfield. He had been closely associated with Leeds United, as the midfielder’s abilities are reportedly admired by former Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa.
When Leeds returned to the Championship last summer, there were once again rumors involving O’Brien, but a move to Elland Road never happened.
The 25-year-old is also a former player for Bradford City, and his breakthrough at Huddersfield came during a loan stint with the Bantams.
