When they first saw each other in 2016 at a café in New York, their love story officially started.
During his suspension, Dutch model Virginia relocated to New York where he worked as a barista and met the woman who is now his mother. After that, she moved to Australia to be with Jobe, 39, and they started a life together.
Watson made a comeback to the AFL in 2017, although he has since retired from the game to work as a pundit for Channel Seven.
Slaghekke has been studying in the meantime, earning a degree in biological sciences before going on to study clinical psychology.
The soon-to-be husband and wife currently reside in Melbourne, where Watson is employed as a property manager.
