Mateusz Gamrot: “I Am the Greatest Lightweight Wrestler” In The Whole….
Gamrot will face seasoned competitor Dan Hooker on Saturday at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia. Gamrot feels that defeating Hooker would position him for a rematch with the interim lightweight champion Makhachev, who is currently out with a hand injury, and ultimately a title unifier.
Despite acknowledging Makhachev’s superior grappling abilities, “Gamer” believes he is the finest lightweight wrestler. Gamrot cites Makhachev’s most recent championship bout versus Poirier, whom he assisted in training, as evidence of that. This past June, at UFC 302, Makhachev was put to the test by Poirier, who ultimately lost via fifth-round submission. Gamrot had it 2-2 heading into the last frame when cornering Poirier for the fight, but the judges had a different opinion. Gamrot is pleased with Poirier’s performance against Makhachev and thinks it illustrates how similar his own possible matchup with the Dagestani may be.
