Ryan Reynolds (born Oct. 23, 1976) is a Canadian and American actor known for rom-coms like “Definitely, Maybe” and “The Proposal”; the R-rated “Deadpool” superhero series; the soccer football series “Welcome to Wrexham,” and many other projects. Born in Vancouver, Reynolds began acting when he was 13 years old and had roles in Canadian shows and films in the 1990s like “Hillside,” “The Odyssey” and “Ordinary Magic.”
Later, he appeared in “The X-Files,” “Sabrina the Teenaged Witch,” “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder,” the 2005 remake of “The Amityville Horror” and bulked up for “Blade: Trinity” in 2004. His rom-com leading role came in 2005’s “Just Friends,” followed by turns in “Smokin’ Aces,” “Definitely, Maybe” and his superhero debut in “X-Men Origins:
Wolverine” in 2009. He played Deadpool, the wise-cracking, fourth-wall breaking mercenary opposite Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. After a small role in the widely panned movie, Reynolds starred in two standalone movies by Fox in the 2010s and one team-up movie with Jackman (“Deadpool and Wolverine”) by Marvel in 2024. Reynolds’ other superhero movie, DC’s “Green Lantern” in 2011, was another failure, but he met his future wife, Blake Lively, who played his love interest. In between his “Deadpool” movies, which further rocketed his stardom, Reynolds starred in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and its sequel “The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife” with Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek, the “Pokemon” film “Detective Pikachu,” the video game movie “Free Guy” and Netflix’s “The Adam Project” and “6 Underground.” On the TV side, he and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney purchased the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC and documented the team’s success on “Welcome to Wrexham.”
