Manchester United is on the brink of finalizing a transfer deal for Manuel Ugarte, with the club poised to settle on a fee with PSG for the midfielder. Diego Munoz, a Uruguayan journalist, reports that the former Sporting CP player is set to depart from the French champions this summer and is “close” to joining the ranks at Old Trafford.

According to Munoz, PSG’s Spanish manager, Luis Enrique, has already informed Ugarte that he should seek a new team, and Manchester United is ready to meet the necessary price to secure his acquisition.

Munoz conveyed:
“He is close to United. Ugarte will not remain at PSG. Luis Enrique has made it clear that he will not be part of his plans.”
“He wasn’t comfortable with the team either, which has created opportunities. PSG aims to offload Ugarte to recover part of their investment in the Uruguayan player, and Manchester United is willing to pay, making them his most likely future destination.”

Last summer, PSG spent 60 million euros to bring Ugarte from Sporting CP and is now looking for a similar fee, around £50 million, to release him.

Munoz also mentioned that Manchester United faces minimal competition for Ugarte. While Atletico Madrid is “very interested,” they can only afford a loan deal, which PSG is not considering as they prefer a full sale. Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich have also shown interest but are proposing terms akin to Atletico’s, which PSG will not accept. Consequently, Ugarte is “close to United.”
