Barcelona Set to Offload Stars to Fund Move for Spain’s Nico Williams

Barcelona are reportedly willing to part with two senior players to fund a lucrative move for Spain and Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams. Williams has been one of Spain’s standout performers at Euro 2024, dazzling on the left flank with a goal and an assist, and forming a formidable partnership with Barca right-winger Lamine Yamal.

The 21-year-old, younger brother of Inaki Williams, has already built an impressive resume for both club and country. With a release clause of around £43 million, Barcelona must sell to overcome their financial constraints.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona might sell defender Ronald Araujo, winger Raphinha, or both to gather the necessary funds. Araujo, whose contract runs until 2026, has an astronomical release clause of nearly £850 million. However, Barcelona would seek a more realistic £63.5 million for the 25-year-old defender, who has reportedly been in talks with Manchester United.

Raphinha, 27, has spent two seasons at Barcelona, reaching double figures for goals in both. However, the club views Williams’ youth and potential as critical for their future, envisioning him and Yamal tormenting defenses for years.

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have also shown interest in Williams, as reported by talkSPORT.

Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, aims to bolster an attack already featuring Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal, making Williams a prime target for the Catalan giants
