“This is an interesting one” Charlton Athletic urged to finalise Coventry City transfer
Charlton Athletic fan pundit Ben believes Coventry City’s Matty Godden would be a good signing at the right price.
Charlton’s Nathan Jones believes that adding seasoned striker Matty Godden will increase the team’s chances of promotion the following year.
Godden is being considered by Charlton’s recruitment squad because of his track record of success in League One and promotion wins.
Godden is an experienced striker, and Charlton’s fan analyst Ben thinks a move for him may be smart if the price is right, despite his advanced age.
Matty Godden of Coventry City is being pursued by Charlton Athletic as manager Nathan Jones aims to bolster his team in anticipation of his first full season in charge.
It was regarded as a major coup for the Addicks when they persuaded Jones to move down to League One. He had an instant influence, as evidenced by the team’s recent success, which has kept them out of relegation danger.
It’s time to get started now because you can be certain that the former Luton Town manager came to The Valley with the intention of, at the very least, returning the team to the Championship.
So, a busy summer is ahead, and Charlton’s recruitment team will be scouting possible prospects already—Goden is reportedly on their radar.
The forward has been an important member of Coventry over the years, but this season he has struggled to get playing time due to the form of Ellis Simms and Haji Wright.
Though Charlton will undoubtedly have competition for the 32-year-old’s signature if he becomes available, the Sky Blues may be willing to cash in on him in the summer to prevent losing him on a free.
In addition to his stellar record in the third division with Coventry and his previous club Peterborough, Godden would provide the Londoners with experience gaining promotions if he were to move south.
And even though he cautioned against overpaying for Godden, Charlton supporter Ben gave an explanation of why, in an interview with FLW, he thinks this would be a smart move for the team.
This one piques my interest. Nathan Jones has made it quite evident that we require further striker depth, particularly if we intend to continue playing two up top.
Miles (Leaburn) is young, Dan Kanu is still a young player, and Aneke is prone to injuries. Thus, we should definitely make an investment in it over the summer.
“Godden has a strong background at this level, but he hasn’t played as much as he would have liked this season. He saved Coventry from League One, and with Alfie May, we shown that we are willing to pay for a striker who is a little older as well as take a chance on him. Alfie’s move paid off.
It might work if you can obtain a good deal. Another striker we were linked to in January is Jonson Clarke-Harris. He is 29, so he is a little younger, but his profile is comparable.
“I think it makes sense for an experienced striker to join May and Aneke, especially since we have Patrick Casey in the reserves and Kanu and Leaburn.” Obviously, it will come down to whether or not you can agree on a fee, as he has one year left on his deal.
If you can agree on the appropriate price, this could be a wise move because he has a solid track record at this level. Overpaying for someone at his age and in their career is something you should avoid doing.
