On November 4, OF Taylor Trammell was traded to the Astros in exchange for monetary considerations. Duke Ellis was outrighted from the Major League roster to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Trammell was added to the Yankees’ 40-man roster on November 3. In 2024, the 27-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Dodgers and Yankees, with the majority of his time spent with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Ellis, 26, was largely used as a pinch runner by the Yankees, but he did get his first major league hit on September 4 at Texas. He also pinch-ran in Game 4 of the American League Division Series in Kansas City.

 

Nov. 3: RHP Yerry De Los Santos, C J.C. Escarra and OF Taylor Trammell added to 40-man roster; RHP Lou Trivino’s club option declined

De Los Santos, 26, had a 2-2 record with four saves and a 4.12 ERA in 51 games (one start) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this past season. His 51 appearances ranked second among Yankees farmhands. De Los Santos has made 48 career Major League relief appearances over parts of two seasons with the Pirates (2022-23), going 1-4 with three saves and a 4.14 ERA.

Escarra, 29, combined with Double-A Somerset (72 games) and Triple-A (52 games) to bat .261 (111-for-426) with 77 runs scored, 32 doubles, three triples, 12 homers, 64 RBIs and 55 walks in 2024. Among Yankees Minor Leaguers, he ranked first in doubles and finished tied for second in runs scored, third in extra-base hits (47), fourth in hits and fifth in total bases (185).

 

Trammell, 27, played in 10 combined games with the Dodgers and Yankees in 2024. He spent the majority of the season with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .256/.381/.488 (86-for-336) with 65 runs, 20 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, 63 RBIs, 63 walks and 20 stolen bases. Trammell’s 18 homers were tied for fourth among Yankees farmhands. He has previously seen big league time with the Mariners (2021-23).

Trivino’s 2025 club option was for $5 million. The 33-year-old has not pitched in the Majors since he suffered a right elbow injury during the 2022 ALCS, which required Tommy John surgery. Trivino made 11 appearances for Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, pitching to a 4.91 ERA across 11 innings.

Rizzo, 35, officially became a free agent when the Yankees declined the first baseman’s $17 million option for the 2025 season, instead paying a $6 million buyout. Rizzo signed a two-year, $34 million deal with New York in November 2022

Nov. 1: Yankees exercise 2025 option on RHP Luke Weaver

Weaver will earn $2.5 million in 2025, coming off a strong ’24 campaign in which he was elevated to the closer’s role. The 31-year-old posted a 7-3 record, 2.89 ERA and four saves in a career-high 62 relief appearances during the regular season. Weaver was stellar in 12 appearances during the postseason, posting a 1.76 ERA across 15 1/3 innings.

 

Oct. 31: LHP Tim Hill, RHP Clay Holmes, RHP Tommy Kahnle, RHP Jonathan Loáisiga, OF Juan Soto, 2B Gleyber Torres and OF Alex Verdugo become free agents

Soto’s free agency figures to be one of the most prominent storylines of the winter, with the 26-year-old outfielder stating after the Yankees’ loss in Game 5 of the World Series that he and agent Scott Boras are ready to hear from all interested clubs. The Yankees have stated many times that they are interested in retaining Soto, but thus far have not issued verbal commitments about any of their other free agents. Soto and all other free agents may begin discussing financial terms with clubs at 5 p.m. ET on Nov. 4.
