I’M LEAVING ” captain Yusuf Maart officially announces his commitment with Kaizer Chiefs……
Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart says he’s not aware of the criticism he’s received from supporters but is targeting improvement in his performances.
Maart, 29, was a marquee signing for Chiefs when they prised him away from Sekhukhune United where he was the club captain and in the senior South Africa national team.
However, he’s yet to replicate the sort of form and consistency he showed that made him one of the most sought-after talents in the league.
“It’s something I don’t take note of or know about, because I’m not a lot on social media, because then if you are a lot on there, you’d know what’s going on,” Maart said.
“But surely I’m not much on it to see all these things. There’s a lot to improve [on my game] and hopefully it will as soon as possible.”
Chiefs started the season with immense optimism due to the appointment of Nasreddine Nabi as head coach and after two wins to open the campaign, they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns before the FIFA international break.
But ahead of the Cufa Cup clash against Marumo Gallants on Saturday at the Toyota Stadium, Maart believes their morale has not been affected by the defeat to the reigning league champions.
“I think we started good, and the game [against Sundowns] didn’t go our way, the result we wanted, but it won’t stop our momentum as a team,” Maart said.
“I don’t think it will bring us down, as well as the technical team.”
Maart has scored four goals with five assists in 65 games in all competitions since his R6-million move to the club back in July 2022.
